Privacy Policy

We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of our users. We will only use the information we collect about you lawfully and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2018. 

Security

When you shop with us via our web site, all your financial transactions are entirely secure. Our secure server software encrypts all your payment card details. The process scrambles all the information, allowing no unauthorised third party to intercept the data. We also use agencies to validate each purchaser really is the legitimate card holder.

How the Law protects you

The General Data Protection Regulation of 2018 states that we are only able to process your personal data if we have valid reason to do so. The basis for processing your personal data includes (but is not limited to) keeping in our system records your contact derails and information regarding purchases, passing your details onto the manufacturers(with your permission)  to allow your product to be registered for warranty purposes, enable billing or finance options.

How do we collect your Personal Data?

We need to collect your information when you make a purchase from us. This may be in store, online via our website or via the telephone. From time to time we may also run promotions or competitions either in store or online and your details will be collected when your enter.

What type of Data do we collect from you?

The type of information we collect about you includes:-  name, address, phone numbers, email address, payment information and IP address (for website orders). The information that we hold about you will be accurate and up to date. You can check the information that we hold about you by e-mailing us.

Items may be purchased using finance. We partner with Blackhorse to offer this which will require your personal data. The registration systems are hosted securely with the third party company, and we maintain secure networks within our premises. This information will be collected and stored by the third party, and none of this information will be retained by Marown TV Ltd. 

Blackhorse requires copies of documents, this could include a passport or driving licence, and will include your full details and photographic image. 

There may be occasions when you contact us regarding a third party individual, for example on behalf of an individual who perhaps does not have the capacity to contact us themselves, or an organisation (such as a letting agent on behalf of a landlord).   In these situations, you must confirm that you have obtained the express consent of the third party for the disclosure and use of their personal data.

When browsing our website, some personal data may be automatically collected.  This includes your IP address, device specific information, server logs, device event information, information regarding your general location and any unique application numbers.  This data is mainly collected using Google Analytics for helping us track our visitor statistics and improving our service levels. 

How and why do we use your Data?

We will use the data you provide to use in the following ways:

  • To process orders you have submitted to us (either in store, by phone or online);
  • To provide you with the products and services you express interest in;
  • To comply with our contractual obligations we have with you (for example, when you order an item from us for home delivery, we’ll collect your address details and pass them to our engineers so they can deliver them to your address);
  • To help us identify you, and any accounts or services you hold with us;
  • To provide customer care, including responding to your requests when you contact us with a query;
  • To administer accounts, payments, and keep track of billing and payments;
  • To detect fraud, and make sure what you have told us is correct;
  • To carry out marketing and statistical data;
  • To review job applications and allow us to contact you regarding an application;
  • To notify you about any changes to our services or urgent product updates (such as recalls);
  • To provide you with our occasional email newsletter, where you have consented to be contacted for such purposes.

If you ever want to change how we use your data, you can refer to the “Your Rights” section below.  Please do remember though, if you choose not to share your personal information with us, or refuse certain contact permissions, we might not be able to provide you with some of the services you should be entitled to.  For example, if a product comes with a promotional 5 year warranty and you choose not to register this with the manufacturer, the warranty period will be limited to the standard manufacturer period of 12 months.

Where we store your Personal Data

All our data is stored responsibly and securely.  We follow accepted ISO standards to store and protect the data we collect, which includes the use of encryption where applicable.

All information we hold in our database is stored on our secure servers. Access to these servers is restricted by secure firewall.

Any data we collect via email is stored securely in our on-site mail server, with security procedures in place to ensure data security.  Any backups which are performed are also protected with the use of a security encryption certificate.

All transactions carried out on our website are done securely using “https” secure socket layer technology.  All credit card transaction online are managed by Sagepay. We do not store credit card details in store or via our website.

We regularly monitor our systems and networks for possible vulnerabilities and attacks, and carry out regular penetration testing of our networks and websites to identify ways to further strengthen our security.  

Retention Periods

We will retain your personal data for the duration of the period you are a customer.  We are required to keep your account and purchase information in the event of appliance breakdown.  

If you request your Right to Erasure (also known as Right to be Forgotten), we will require you to complete a disclaimer indicating you are aware of the implications of us securely removing your personal details from our systems.  This disclaimer must be signed and identification must be provided.  The form will be returned to our office, where it will be kept securely in a locked environment for a period of 7 years as evidence you have requested to exercise your Right to Erasure. After the 7 year period, the form will be destroyed.  For more information on Right to Erasure, please speak to our staff in store.

Who has access to your Personal Data?

We do not, and never will, sell your personal details to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

We do work closely with some third party companies; and generally, we will not share your data unless you have given us explicit permission to do so.  There may be some occasions where your data will be shared with these trusted third party companies when it relates to your purchase; for example, delivery couriers (where applicable), external contractors or delivery engineers visiting your home, for fraud management, to handle a complaint, or to help us personalise our email newsletter.

If we do pass your information on to those, such as in the examples above, we will only provide them with the information they require to provide specific services.  They may only use your data for the exact purpose we specify in our contract with them.

We will always work closely with third parties to ensure that your privacy is respected at all times.  If we stop using any of their services, any of your data held by them will either be deleted or rendered anonymous.

Your Rights

You have the right to request the following:

Access to the personal data we hold about you. 

To correct your personal data if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete.  You can do this via telephone, in store or via the Contact Us form on our website.

  • To have the personal data we hold about you removed securely from our systems.  This is known as your Right to be Forgotten.  There are legal, service and accountancy reasons why we will need to keep your data, but if you wish to have your details removed then please visit us in store where an application can be made, subject to meeting the minimum requirements (for example, any outstanding finance is paid up and you acknowledge that once your details have been removed, we will be unable to carry out any under-warranty repair work free of charge unless you can provide us with adequate proof of purchase when booking an engineer).

Use of Cookies on our Website

  • A cookie consists of a piece of text sent by a web server to a web browser, and stored by the browser. The information is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. This enables the web server to identify and track the web browser.
  • We use both “session” cookies and “persistent” cookies on the website. We will use the session cookies to: keep track of you whilst you navigate the website. We will use the persistent cookies to: enable our website to recognise you when you visit.
  • Session cookies will be deleted from your computer when you close your browser. Persistent cookies will remain stored on your computer until deleted, or until they reach a specified expiry date.
  • We use Google Analytics to analyse the use of this website. Google Analytics generates statistical and other information about website use by means of cookies, which are stored on users’ computers. The information generated relating to our website is used to create reports about the use of the website. Google will store this information.   • Most browsers allow you to reject all cookies, whilst some browsers allow you to reject just third party cookies. For example, in Internet Explorer you can refuse all cookies by clicking “Tools”, “Internet Options”, “Privacy”, and selecting “Block all cookies” using the sliding selector. Blocking all cookies will, however, have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites.

We agree to take reasonable measures to protect your data to the highest possible standard with applicable laws and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation.   

In the event of a data breach, we will ensure that our obligations under applicable data protection laws are complied with where necessary.
